Yay! Made it to Detroit on schedule!
YAY!! We made it to Michigan. Had a nice uneventful ride across part of Ontario, Canada then had a bit of a stall getting back into the US. We were the only RV around and they sent us to wait in a closed RV line and told us it could be about 15minutes wait til that line was opened. Then it didn't look good when we saw three INS guys walking towards us with gloves on. Without even asking us a question, they came right into the RV to look around - even though we had only been in Canada for 5 hours. They even commented on the smell in our fridge - thanks to the rotten orange that has been gone 3 days but the smell lingers. And asked if our RV is always that cluttered. Didn't know how to answer that - well, it's not unusual for our RV to be cluttered but the reason it looked cluttered, then, was that the sides were pulled in, there was a pile of the "keep Ellyn occupied" stuff behind my seat and some stuff from the counters was nestled in the sofa so they wouldn't slide off the counter. Anyway, after 10 minutes of them poking around and asking us questions, we were off again. Made it here in plenty of sunshine due to Michigan's westerly location. Tomorrow, we have the day to relax and maybe do laundry and then dinner with Geoff's college friend, Ken and his wife, Josie.
Border Crossing Day
The first day of our huge trip went very well. We are very thankful that we got through Springfield, MA before the tornadoes. We found a picturesque little campground for the night. We woke up to a sunny chilly (55F) and very breezy morning. Geoff is having a handful driving us through the wind.
Today's plans are to cut through Ontario, Canada on our way to the Detroit area. Sure hope we don't have a repeat of the thorough border inspection that we had, last year, when we went into New Brunswick, Canada. While we are driving through Canada, we'll have the phones and internet link turned off. Guess I'll get some crocheting and reading done.
My goal is to include photos in each of these posts. Still need to work out that system.
